⚡︎ You are not what a piece of paper says you are

You are not your past. You are not your mistakes. You are not someone else’s mistake.

⚡︎ You are not what a piece of paper says you are

First things first: You are not your past. You are not your mistakes. You are not someone else’s mistake. You are not what a piece of paper says you are.

I often say that we have to trust the process, the process of life. We have to allow things to fall as they do, not fighting it, not belittling it, not demanding that it be gone.

If you allow it, life will teach you the greatest lessons. But you must be careful to not allow those lessons to pour guilt or shame into your life. Life doesn’t do that. We do. We are the ones who allow the darkness in. It’s a choice.

We can choose darkness, or we can choose light. We can choose to hate on ourselves because of what has happened, or we can choose to love ourselves regardless. We can choose to live depressed, or we can choose to live abundantly with joy.

We alone choose how we will respond to life and what it throws. Choose good, reap good. Choose bad, reap bad. I’ve tried both. Don’t make that same mistake.

Heartache belongs to everyone. So stop fighting it. Trust it. It will heal you. It will renew you. It will cause you to rise up within, stronger than before, more resilient, patient, and compassionate – if you let it.

Don’t be so downcast. Yes, it hurts. Trust me, I know. It’s excruciatingly painful to live in pain, to live with a broken heart, to live under dark clouds, or to live without, but it’s even more painful to lose yourself (and hate the world) during the process. Please don’t do that.

So remember: You are not your past. You are not your mistakes. You are not someone else’s mistake. You are not what a piece of paper says you are.

You are you. Created precisely for such a time as this. It’s your choice to believe that. I assure you, however, that if you don’t fight for yourself – for your right to life and right to a better future – you will miss out on the beauty of the process and the growth in the journey.

It’s there, I promise. Please believe in that and open your eyes to see it, too.
